Pastured Poultry

Heritage Turkey and Chicken

Our slow-grown turkey (heritage breeds) and chicken (heritage breeds as well as freedom rangers), raised the old-fashioned way. They still breed naturally and roam in the great outdoors, never given antibiotics or growth hormones, they feed on organic pastures and are given grain.

The breeds are important when raising chickens and turkeys outdoors. These types of pastured heritage turkey and chicken have been known to test higher in omega-3 fatty acids, higher in nutritional content, and have a richer flavor. Their meat requires a slower and longer method of cooking than the turkey and chicken sold in the grocery store today.

Due to the slow growth rate, these breeds are higher in price than the broad-breasted breeds, but people who have grown to love the old heritage taste consider it well worth the price.

About Freedom Rangers: this breed is well-loved and provides an alternative to the more expensive heritage breeds. They still grow more slowly than the common broad-breasted varieties, and we feel they are a more economical option for flavorful chicken.
